Acceptable Forms of Payment

Modified on Fri, 2 Jan at 5:13 PM

Purpose

To support timely and secure rent collection at our communities, it is critical that our teams follow approved methods of payment and discourage risky or non-compliant practices. This policy provides clear guidance to help protect residents and Bellaire Multifamily Management from financial errors or loss.

Standard

Acceptable forms of payment include personal checks, cashier’s checks, traveler’s checks, money orders, and credit cards. Cash payments must be taken to the bank and deposited or converted into a money order the same day. Unacceptable forms of payment include third-party endorsed checks (e.g., a check made out to someone other than the resident and then signed over to the property).

Task Breakdown

All leasing offices must display a sign stating 'No Cash Accepted.'

Bellaire accepts the following methods of payment for rent and other charges owed:
   a. Personal checks payable to the community
   b. Post-dated checks are not acceptable; all checks and money orders must be dated and endorsed upon receipt
   c. Money orders that appear altered must not be accepted
   d. Cashier’s checks
   e. Credit cards (if available at the property)
   f. Cash payments are discouraged. Residents should be encouraged to use money orders or cashier’s checks. Cash must be converted the same day, and a receipt must be issued.
